The ideas we came up with surrounded shots of the piano being played as this is a prominent instrument especially during the introduction, and the idea of a vinyl record slowing down to represent the slowing pace during one part of the music and lyrics.

60's inspiration
When we discussed our video for the first time as a group we came up with a range of ideas and elements which we wanted to include. Some of these ideas were to reflect the music in our video, it's change in pace and the instruments which are prominent in the song.

Website
These are some print screens from Kate Nash's website. The feel of it fits in with the indie genre as it has a messy informal look about it. It looks as if somebody has doodled at the side of the web page and the font looks hand written. The last screen shot is of her blog which has a vintage look to it with the faded wallpaper and the typewriter. The website has a very personal feel to it because it isn't perfect and its like Kate Nash made it herself and drew al the graphics and the font. The overall look of the websites are very home made, i think this is good as it makes Kate seem very down to earth and not glamorised like other female pop singers. The colours of the webite are really simple and complement eachother realy well. They arn't too bright, but the page is still eye catching by the big illutrations and petterns.
Initial ideas after first hearing the song
For the distorted music in the very first 4-5 seconds of the song we could use a black and white distorted Point of View shot, as if the character in the video has a hang-over.
As the beat immediately begins after this, the idea of someone tap dancing to represent the beat of the song could be used whilst also cutting from someone playing the chords on the piano (possibly just a view of their hands and the keys) to a drum kit being played and then a split scene of all three (tap dancer, drums, and piano) all being played at the same time.
The skeleton could be shown to stand up by its self - in a cartoon flick-book style. Also another idea is maybe to use a character who keeps meeting dead ends in their narrative in the video.
Obscure scales and disproportion is something which appears in Kate Nash's album cover - she looks tiny next to the house. At the section of the song which uses a squeaky door effect, we could possibly create a type of 'Alice in Wonderland' style shot with someone squeezing through a tiny canted door, or have the skeleton at a canted, disproportionate angle in a part of the video.
During part of the song when it slows down (3:21) a shot of a vinyl slowing down after being played could be used to represent the change in pace.

Kate Nash - Foundations
Kate Nash/Foundations
One of Kate Nash's video's. We would ideally like to do our video in a similar sort of style eg bright costume and mise en scene, vintage props, etc. This would be a good video to base ours on.
Video genre:
Narrative
Lip syncing
Very basic
Unorginal
Shots are very long in duration
Unconventiional pop video due to sad ending
Things we could use:
Random shots at beginning such as shoes and toothbrushes
Playing cards in video- nothing to do with song
Eating lemons- same as lyrics
Split story in chrous: lip syncing and decorating cake
Really nice close up of holding hands with sun behind
LYRICS
Thursday night, everything's fine, except you've got that look in your eye
when I'm tellin' a story and you find it boring, you're thinking of something to say.
You'll go along with it then drop it and humiliate me in front of our friends.
Then I'll use that voice that you find annoyin' and say something like
"yeah, intelligent input, darlin', why don't you just have another beer then?"
Then you'll call me a bitch
and everyone we're with will be embarrassed,
and I wont give a shit.
My fingertips are holding onto the cracks in our foundation,
and I know that I should let go,
but I can't.
And every time we fight I know it's not right,
every time that you're upset and I smile.
I know I should forget, but I can't.
You said I must eat so many lemons
'cause I am so bitter.
I said
"I'd rather be with your friends mate 'cause they are much fitter."
Yes, it was childish and you got aggressive,
and I must admit that I was a bit scared,
but it gives me thrills to wind you up.
My fingertips are holding on to the cracks in our foundation,
and I know that I should let go,
but I can't.
And every time we fight I know it's not right,
every time that you're upset and I smile.

I know I should forget, but I can't.
Your face is pasty 'cause you've gone and got so wasted, what a surprise.
Don't want to look at your face 'cause it's makin' me sick.
You've gone and got sick on my trainers,
I only got these yesterday.
Oh, my gosh, I cannot be bothered with this.
Well, I'll leave you there 'till the mornin',
and I purposely wont turn the heating on
and dear God, I hope I'm not stuck with this one.
My fingertips are holding onto the cracks in our foundation,
and I know that I should let go,
but I can't.
And every time we fight I know it's not right,
every time that you're upset and I smile.
I know I should forget, but I can't.
And every time we fight I know it's not right,
every time that you're upset and I smile.
I know I should forget, but I can't.

Possible CD covers
FRONT COVER DRAFT!!!
simplicity
uniqueness
quirky
These are all factors adapted from Kate Nash CD covers and website design. Additional ideas would be adding gold stars (once printed off) and gold glitter for a homemade effect- obviously this couldn't be done in terms of mass productions but for our one off project this would have a great effect. We would also add the title and artist name (Skeleton Song by Kate Nash) to the left in a handwritten scrawl, again similar to the style of Kate Nash.
BACK COVER DRAFT!!!
Like the front cover, this is just a simple image taken off google images. I thought for an added extra to crop off one arm and add it to the other side of the cover- adding to the quirkiness. I think plain or primary colours would be the best option for a background as it adds to the laid back 'don't care' feel which surrounds the indie genre. Patterns would be too fussy, I think. Again, adding decoration such at a few stars or glitter would be appropiate and the song title and B-side songs would be written in the middle in a hand written font.

Skeleton Song Lyrics
Skeleton, you are my friend
But you are made of bone
And you have got no flesh and blood
Running through you to help protect the bone
Skeleton, we have been friends for years
And you have seen me through some trials
And tribulations and some tears
But everybody thinks I'm weird
And I should have known that it wouldn't be long
Until you, you've got me standing in an awkward position
With unwanted attention and a need for explanation
And it's not that I'm letting go of you
But I don't know what to do
Skeleton, we are so close
But you have got no body
So, why do you insist on wearing clothes?
Skeleton, when we were young, it was easy
Even though the other kids, they would tease me
I was only seven, I had you but now I'm twenty two
And now it's different when I take you out
And you, you've got me standing in an awkward position
With unwanted attention and a need for explanation
And it's not that I'm letting go of you
But I don't know what to do
And sometimes at night
I dream of the most terrible things
I take, take a hammer and I creep out of bed
And I raise it high and I smash your head
Fibular and tubular and ribs and cages, too
In fact, while I'm here, I'll smash the whole of you
But skeleton, you are my friend
And I could never bring your life to an end
Yes, skeleton, you are, you are my friend
And I'll be there for you until the end
And even though when I take you out
You've got me, you've got me
Standing in an awkward position
With unwanted attention and a need for explanation
I could, I could never let you go
And that is all I know
And that is all I know
And that is all I, that is all I know
And that is all I know, know
Reading the lyrics to the song really helped us in making our decision to choose it, as it has an on going narrative that tells a story.
My interpretation of the lyrics is that tells the story of somebody who has a friend or an imaginary friend that they are too old to have. The girl feels as if she owes the friend something because they have always been there for her but now she is twenty two she thinks its awkward to still have an imaginary friend because people look at her. She dreams about killing the skeleton with a hammer, but knows she cant do this because it has always been there for her 'And you have seen me through some trials, And tribulations and some tears'. This tells a typical linear narrative of cause and effect.
